Barnet F.C.

BARNET4U is NOT a borough web site and believes that Barnet F.C should stay in the town  where
it started and where it belongs.
There has been so much fuss about a little bit of land that nobody will miss, while in Station Road,
New Barnet, Victorian houses are being pulled down to make even more flats.
And playing fields are disappearing for much the same reason.
Barnet Football Club IS an important part of the community, especially since they won promotion.
Thousands who do not go to see them play, cheer in pubs and clubs throughout the town if the Bees
get a result.
Kids have the chance to support a team that they can afford to see, and who knows, someday some of
them might be playing for the Bees. Now that is something to aim for and if the idea of having an astro
turf for the community happens,it might do something to help stop kids from hanging around the streets
with nothing to do.
If you want to know more about the campaign to keep our local club local, and about
the high ranking decision maker on the council who has stated "I can honestly say I have never been to
ever watch a football match in my life. I've got a life"
(and therefore the parents, children supporters and voters of Barnet do not!)

These are pictures of the march taken by Barnet F.C supporters
and organised by K.B.A (keep Barnet alive) Local politicians were asked to attend
but we think only Lib Dem Sean Hooker turned up.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF BARNET FOOTBALL CLUB
Barnet FC was formed in 1888 after previously being called New Barnet FC and Woodville FC.
Their biggest rivals were local teams Barnet Avenue FC. and Alston Works Athletic FC.
When Barnet F.C dissolved in 1901 Barnet Avenue FC renamed themselves Barnet FC and in 1912 they merged with Barnet Alston to form Barnet and Alston AFC.

On September 14th 1907 they played their first game at Underhill against Crystal Palace winning 1-0 in front of 800 spectators. In1912 they joined The Athenian league and after the war, in1919, they rejoined the league, this time, once again as Barnet F.C. The club won the league in 1931, 1932,
The Forties saw success in the Herts Senior Cup, London Senior Cup and Herts Charity Cup. But their biggest triumph was in 1946, in front of 53,000 people at Stamford Bridge, beating Bishop Auckland 3-2 to lift the FA Amateur Cup.

The club again won the Athenian League the following season (1948) could not complete the double, losing at Stamford Bridge, this time to Leytonstone by 1-0.
In 1959 Barnet once more reached the amateur cup final which was now being staged at Wembley and in an exciting final they went down as 3-2 losers to Crook Town. The club won the Athenian league again in 1964 and 1965, which was also the year they joined the southern league division two. They won promotion to the premier league in their first season and in 1972 they were again at Wembley, this time in the F.A. Challenge cup.

Once again they went home empty handed after loosing 3-0 to Stafford Rangers and also to Hereford in The Southern League Cup on Penalties.
They were relegated back to division 2 in 1975 but a couple of years later they were promoted again. In 1980 they joined The Alliance League which was later to be renamed The Conference League.

Then in 1991 the town went crazy as we won promotion to the 4th Division. (which became the 3rd division the following season) in which they won promotion to the 2nd Division.
But the buzz about the town disappeared when Barnet returned to division 3 in 1994 and it got even worse when they were relegated back into the Conference in 2001.
But now the team are back in the 3rd division and the buzz is coming back. Although the club have had its trouble with the council and others who do not care if they move out of the area the fact is that Barnet F.C has been a part of the town for over 100 hundred years. Many parents are thankful that their children have somewhere to go and many supporters are the back bone of Barnet. Although the average attendance might be a couple of thousand there are many more in the town who look to Barnet’s results when ever they are playing.
