All
around the town of Barnet there are people who love their sport.
Which ever sport it is there should be somewhere to play that
sport.
Not too much to ask for in the 21st century but the government
and the council do little to make this a reality.
Through this page we hope to bring YOU, the sports lovers in and
around the town of Barnet a chance to have your say on what we
need and how we can go about getting it. No matter which politician
is in power it is YOU who puts them there.
To make our playing fields into sites for houses or flats is nothing
but a disgrace and a way of putting profit before our needs.
We have (at the moment) a professional football team in our town
whose hands are tied to help the community because several people,
who have no interest in our town, decide it is not right to build
on a piece of grass that is called "the green belt".
Take about the same amount of grass area that happens to be a
playing field and although green it will be allowed to be used
by developers. Does that seem fair?
Sports clubs are having to close down as their rent is put up
and they have to find more money to maintain their club house
So have your say on what we need
to do to make sure your sport has a chance of attracting the young
that you need to continue.
Suggest ideas, write about your frustrations at not getting further
with projects, such as the people who are trying to put together
a cricket and football academy for local kids but finds the council
as stubborn with them as they are with Barnet Football club.
Is there not ONE person on Barnet council who likes sport?
Is there not a few people on Barnet council who can see that most
of the kids hanging around your local supermarket are there because
there is nothing for them to do.
Bet if you talked to those kids most of them love sport......BUT
WHERE CAN I GO TO PLAY IT?????
Enough said.
Please have an input into this page. If enough of us do, the ball
will start rolling and perhaps we can do something about it.
In Finchley there was once an Olympic sized swimming pool where
now a paddling pool and eating places stand.
There was an indoor swimming pool in Squires Lane where now flats
stand and the playing fields off Bow Lane will be made available
for flats. (all for the power of profit).
